Pipe Pump Plastic Waterproofing System - Ridgefield, WA
Challenge
This homeowner noticed there was a lot of standing water in their crawl space and there was no drainage system installed for the water to get out from. In order to solve this problem and save their home, they reached out to John's Waterproofing about what their options were. The homeowner explained that they weren't prepared for this water disaster and just wanted a system that would help get the water out. We explained that the Pipe Pump Plastic method would be the best option to install a drainage system and a new vapor barrier.
Solution
The Pipe Pump Plastic method involves installing a proper drainage system so that any water that tries to enter the crawl space has a safe passageway to be sent away from the homes foundation. This process begins by first taking out the previous damaged insulation and vapor barrier. They were water damaged and weren't properly protecting the home against water intrusion. Instead, they were creating an optimal environment for mold and mildew to grow and allow water to continue to flood in. Then, we dig a trench along the interior perimeter of the crawl space. This trench holds a 3 inch perforated pipe. The pipe's purpose is to collect water and offer a safe passageway to flow through to reach the sump pump. This pipe can collect any rising groundwater or water that enters through the walls. It connects to a SuperSump Plus sump pump. The sump pump is able to take all the collected water and safely push it out of the crawl space and away from the homes foundation through a discharge line. These work together to prevent future standing water in the crawl space. Finally, we install a new 6 mil vapor barrier. We overlap each seam of the vapor barrier to ensure water can't seep over top of it. It is installed along the base of the crawl space, up the foundation walls, and between the footing and wooden posts. After this whole system is installed, the homeowner now feels safer that water won't continue to puddle in their crawl space and cause more damage to their home.
