Flood Watch, and the Water is Rising

STAYING ON FLOOD WATCH

TIPS TO MINIMIZE WATER DAMAGE

When we came into the office today we were greeted with a sea of red flashing phone lines and a voicemail box full of customers needing help. With the near constant rain and recent snow melt, it is only going to continue. Right now there are several areas throughout Oregon and Washington that are under Flood Watch and that list is going to continue to grow as the rains continue to come down. Here are a few tips that can help you minimize your water damage

This road is going to be a lake

  1. If you have active leaking in your basement move as many items as you can to higher ground  or at the least into plastic totes to protect your belongings.
  2. If you currently have a sump pump make sure that it has power and a battery backup attached. In the event of a flood, there is the risk of losing power. This is why we recommend a battery back up for our sump pumps to ensure you are constantly protected.
  3. If you are able to identify where large puddles may be letting water into your home do your best to place sandbags or barriers in order to minimize the amount of water coming into the space. Once the water starts it is hard to eliminate the water entirely but you can't take measures to reduce the amount of water.
  4. Get a waterproofing system. If you are having water issues, they are not going to resolve themselves and a shop vacuum is not a long term solution. Call today for a free inspection and make a plan to deal with your water issues permanently.

The water is not going to stop any time soon and spring showers are on board too making for a very wet spring.
