Photo Album: Keep Water Out of the Basement - McMinnville, OR
After years of water constantly flooding into their basement, this homeowner decided it was finally time for a change and wanted to look into getting it waterproofed so they could have a contractor finish the space. They decided this job would need professionals to make sure water wouldn't have access inside again and called John's Waterproofing. When doing a full basement waterproofing system, the most important step is installing drainage. This allows water to have a safe passageway to flow through as opposed to having access into the basement. To do so, we install WaterGuard. This is a drainage pipe that is installed along the interior perimeter of the basement. We place it at the footing and line it with gravel so water can filter through easily and not get clogged. The WaterGuard pipe connects to a TripleSafe sump pump. The sump pump is what takes all that collected water and can safely push it out of the basement and away from the homes foundation. It is a three-pump system with heavy duty pumps to be able to handle mass amounts of water intrusion. While the drainage system helps to keep water out, ThermalDry is a vapor and heat barrier that protects against moisture. ThermalDry is installed along the foundation walls and is sealed with thick waterproof tape. It acts as a guide for any water that tries to seep through the walls and sends it down below to the drainage system. We ensure the safe passage of water from walls to drainage by shingled the ThermalDry to the WaterGuard system. Next we installed a SaniDry dehumidifier, this will pull excess moisture of the air, making it so mold won't find a home in this basement. After this basement waterproofing process is completed, the homeowner is free to finish the space and can add hundreds of usable space to their home without the threat of water.
