Photo Album: Waterproof and Finishing the Basement in Salem, OR
This homeowners basement had been finished, but they started noticing water leaking through their walls. Unsure of how to stop it, they contacted John's Waterproofing. We suggested a full basement waterproof system that involved installing a drainage system to control the flow of water so it wouldn't continue entering the home. They agreed that would be the best solution and also wanted us to finish the basement so it could become a usable living space. To begin the basement waterproofing system, we first needed to jackhammer a trench along the interior perimeter of the basement. This is for the WaterGuard drainage pipe to be installed into. WaterGuard is a system that collects any water that tries to enter and offers it a safe passageway to be sent out. It sits alongside the footing of the basement and is lined with gravel to be able to easily filter the water through. We cover the system with concrete so it offers the homeowners a discreet drainage system. This pipe connects to a SuperSump Plus sump pump that takes all that collected water and securely pushes it out of the basement and away from the homes foundation. Once the drainage system is installed, we then anchor ThermalDry to the basement walls. This is a heat and vapor barrier that acts as a guide for any moisture to be sent down below to the drainage system. It is sealed with waterproof tape and shingled to the WaterGuard for secure passage. Lastly, our finishing team went in and installed paint ready drywall to all the basement walls so that the space could be finished and used however the homeowners wanted. Now, this basement is protected against water intrusion and also added hundreds of usable square footage to the home.
