High Energy Cost Issues in Rainier, OR
Challenge
A homeowner in Rainier, Oregon had reached his limit with his vexation. Even though his house was a relatively small home, his heating costs were ridiculous. Every winter he had to choose between spending a fortune and staying warm or just deal with the cold. He couldn't figure out what might be the reason for these high energy costs for his little house, or how to lower them.
Solution
About 50% of the air in a home comes from the basement or crawl space. So if the air in the crawl space is cold and musty then so will a lot of the air for the rest of the house. Our crews went out to this home in Rainier and found that the crawl space had an open vent. That means that all the cold air from outside was coming directly into the crawl space and up into the rest of the house. Our team installed an insulated vent cover to keep the outside air where it belongs and not inside of the house, effectively lowering the homeowner's heating costs.
