Finishing Your Basement - Portland, OR
Challenge
No one wants to experience their basement flooding. When this happens it can cause significant damage to your homes health and lead to rotting wood and even mold exposure. Not to mention if your basement is used as a living space, then everything you have in there will be ruined and water damaged. Luckily, this homeowner contacted John's Waterproofing as soon as they realized water was coming into their basement and wanted to fix it. John's specializes in basement waterproofing in order to offer homeowners safe and dry homes that they can enjoy.
Solution
In order to begin the basement waterproofing process, the most important step is installing a drainage system so that water has a safe passageway to go through. We do this by installing WaterGuard along the interior perimeter of the basement for the water to flow through. We make sure to flatly cover the WaterGuard drainage system beneath the floor so that it is unnoticeable, yet effective. This is then connected to the TripleSafe sump pump which continuously works to push water safely away from the homes foundation. Once this system is installed and where the water goes is controlled, then we begin installing a waterproofing system for the walls. We will cut into the drywall and apply ThermalDry along the foundation walls. This is a vapor barrier that is shingled to the drain system on the floor which then safely guides any moisture. A SaniDry dehumidifier is installed to keep the moisture in the air controlled. For insulation, we apply SliverGlo between the framing to properly insulate the space and improve energy efficiency. Because this homeowner wanted a finished basement, we then complete with paint ready drywall over top of our wall insulation. Once all that is finished, the homeowner gets to enjoy a dry basement that looks and feels clean.
