Extreme Floor Leaks Almost Ruined this Basement - Ridgefield, WA
Challenge
While we might not be able to control the weather, we can control how it impacts our homes. This homeowner had experienced the floor constantly leaking and puddling during big storms. No matter what they did to try to control the standing water, nothing seemed to help. They decided it was time for a professional to come and look at their basement floors and see what their options were to control it. We suggested a basement waterproofing system that could control the passage of water from big storms outside and prevent it from getting into the basement. The homeowner agreed and we got started right away.
Solution
Homeowners should be able to comfortably enjoy their basement no matter the weather outside. With our basement waterproofing system we can ensure just that. To begin the process we first needed to install a proper drainage system. This includes jackhammering a trench along the interior perimeter and since there were cracks through the floor we also dug trenches to address these points through the middle of the floor. Then we installed a drainage pipe called WaterGuard in the perimeter and leech lines where the cracks had been. We installed WaterGuard inspection ports along the perimeter to be able to check the pipes regularly and ensure they aren't getting clogged. The water travels through the new drain system which connects to a SuperSump Plus sump pump. The sump pump is able to take all that collected water and safely push it out of the basement and away from the homes foundation. Now that the floors are protected against excess water from seeping up, then we needed to install a wall system. Since the owners want to finish the space, we installed our ThermalDry which is a vapor barrier that goes along the walls of the basement. It is anchored and sealed with waterproof tape to prevent any water from leaking through. This vapor barrier helps to guide any moisture down below to the drainage system and help to keep the basement dry. After this entire process is completed, the homeowner won't have to worry about water leaking up through their basement floors no matter the weather.
