Basement Waterproofing Photo Album: How WaterGuard Helps Keep Basements Dry - Silverton, OR
Being able to keep the basement dry seems like an easy goal for most homeowners. But, foundations are made with a porous material, and water will leak in, and it's important to know what you can do to stop and control it. At John's Waterproofing our basement waterproofing system is designed specifically to control the flow of water and offer it a safe passageway so that it won't flood into basements. And how do we do that? By installing the WaterGuard drainage system! WaterGuard is a long-lasting drainage pipe that can collect water and safely guide it to a TripleSafe sump pump to be pushed out of the basement and away from the homes foundation. In order to install WaterGuard, we first need to jackhammer the concrete along the interior perimeter of the basement. This allows for an open trench that the WaterGuard gets placed into. It sits at the top of footing instead of alongside it to help prevent any clogging. This happens because it is able to keep wet dirt from getting into the drainage pipe by not sitting in mud. Once installed, the WaterGuard is lined with gravel that helps to securely filter water through for easy access into the sump pump. The TripleSafe sump pump is a three-pump system that can collect gallons of water from the WaterGuard and constantly pushes it away from the homes foundation. In order to protect the walls, we anchor a ThermalDry vapor barrier to the walls and shingle it down to the WaterGuard system. This guides any moisture from the walls to the drainage system, then that takes it to the sump pump. Everything is sealed with 4 in. thick waterproof tape to ensure that no water will be able to get through. The last step of this process is to completely cover the WaterGuard system up with concrete so that it offers a discreet look while still being effective. After this drainage system is installed, the basement is completely waterproofed and protected against any water that tries to enter. With the ThermalDry on the wall this space is also set up for the homeowners to now finish this space and enjoy it as a dry and usable space.
