Upgrading the Basement/Crawlspace Storage - Vancouver, WA
Challenge
This home had a duel basement and crawlspace. The basement section was used for storage, and had a full side open to the hillside crawlspace. The crawlspace was a mess. The insulation was falling to pieces, and the simple six mil vapor barrier in this space was crumpled and covered in general debris. The homeowners could see mold spores appearing on their stored items, and called up John's Waterproofing for a solution.
Solution
Our installation crew began by removing the old vapor barrier, debris, and old fiberglass insulation. They then installed a perforated pipe system in the crawlspace. This will collect the water and grade it to a newly installed TripleSafe sump pump. From here water is sent safely out and away from the homes foundation. Following this, we laid down TerraBlock insulation. This insulates the dirt floor, and is then encased in CleanSpace. This 20 Mil woven vapor barrier in installed under each wooden post, anchored along the walls, and sealed in place. A few days later our spray foam specialist came out and applied spray foam along the foundation walls to finish insulating the area. This home will now be dry and healthy, and the adjoining basement space will be a safe space for storage items.
