The Scotts Mills Community Center
Challenge
Here at John's Waterproofing, it's very important to us that we give back to our community. Each year we pick a different organization to help, and this year some of our employees suggested their Community Center in Scotts Mills. This older building provides much needed services to the locals. From food donations, a public space for clubs and events, to hosting one of the top-rated AA meetings, it has been a pillar to those in need. Having been there for many of our own employees during the wildfires in 2020, the ice storm in 2021, as well as providing a safe space for children to do online learning during Covid-19, John's Waterproofing was happy to help upgrade this building. Upon inspection we found the building needed attic insulation, plumbing work, a crawlspace encapsulation and downspout repair. The attic had evidence of a rodent intrusion, plumbing was rusted and had a nasty build up, the gutter downspouts dumped near the homes foundation, and the crawlspace will ill-kept.
Solution
Our installation crews arrived and started at the top, working their way down. The attic was cleaned up and then insulated with blown-in cellulose insulation to help lower the buildings energy costs. While this was being done, our plumbing division installed a new toilet and sink in the bathroom, they also upgraded the bathroom plumbing that ran through the crawlspace. The next step brought in our crawlspace experts. They began by repairing the gutters downspouts, extending these down and well away from the building so water wouldn't accumulate around the foundation. In the crawlspace, TerraBlock, a flexible foam insulation was laid down and over that they installed CleanSpace 20mil polyester reinforced vapor barrier. It's seams were sealed and attached to the foundation walls. The vents were sealed and an EverLast door replaced the old, rotting wooden door. A SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier was installed to keep the air dry and healthy. Lastly, 3" of closed-cell spray foam was applied to the foundation walls, effectively sealing the crawlspace and bringing the insulation factor to industry standards.
