Extreme Crawl Space Cleanup - Clackamas, OR
Challenge
Upon discovering a strange smell, this homeowner decided to investigate underneath his home and identify what could be causing it. They found extreme damage to the fiberglass installation in the sub-floor of their house causing it to fall and ruin their homes overall insulation. Without knowing where to start to fix the problem occurring in their crawl space, they reached out to John's Waterproofing and discussed the steps to fix the fiberglass insulation. Their design specialist recommended a full encapsulation to provide an insulation solution that was built to last.
Solution
The homeowner was excited to find out that there was a solution to his homes crawl space and agreed to doing the full encapsulation. We began by completely removing the fiberglass insulation. Upon the removal, we discovered some mold had been growing and did a spot treatment using Moldx to eliminate any mold growth in the crawl space and helping to prevent future growth. Then we installed drainage around the interior perimeter of the house by laying perforated pipes in a silt sock which helped to guide water safely away from the homes foundation. This process is done by going through a TripleSafe sump pump. To rebuild the insulation in the home, we placed 3/4 in. TerraBlock and a CleanSpace vapor barrier on top and along foundation walls. The CleanSpace vapor barrier is a 20 mil woven barrier to help ensure moisture won't seep up into the wood of the house. In order to control the environment, a SaniDry dehumidifier was installed to keep the airflow consistent and prevent the chances of mold and mildew to grow. Lastly, Spray Foam was applied along the homes foundation walls to complete the encapsulation process of insulating and air sealing. The homeowner was so impressed with the work he opted to add the Crawl Space Light Package and show off the results himself.
