Mold and Rot
Humidity in a crawlspace creates an ideal environment for mold and leads to foundational weakness
Is this holding up your house
Often we see quick fixes from foundation damage and rot. Is your home supported by stacked plywood?
Humidity has rotted this foundation
Humidity in a crawlspace does more than effect your air quality. It can destroy your foundation and lead to costly repairs.
Mold consuming a foundation
When the mold finishes eating away these support beams what happens to the foundation and safety of the home?
Falling Insulation
Falling insulation is a result of excessive moisture build up due to high levels of humidity in a crawlspace. This increases the space between the floor and the ground below rendering insulation pointless. These gaps allow the cold moist area to go directly up into your home. It also provides a wonderful home for pests of all types.
Wet and mildewy mess
This crawlspace was full of water and mildew, wet posts and falling insulation.
Insulation falling down
Moisture in the crawlspace collects in the insulation until it is so heavy it falls down.
Fiberglass insulation falling apart
When insulation falls from moisture it is no longer effectively insulating your home.
Moisture on wood
The moisture in the crawl space can rot your foundation with you being unaware the problem even exists.
Building foundations
If no expects you to go under the home it might be easy to build subpar just to make ends meet.
Pipes rusting under the house
Constant moisture and temperature changes are causing the outsides of these pipes to rust. This could lead to a serious plumbing issue for the homeowners.
Falling fiberglass insulation
This insulation finally fell with the weight of the water it had collected leaving it a messy pile on the ground, and a section of home uninsulated.
Water coming in under the footing
The water finally accumulated enough on the exterior side of the foundation wall that it has now begun coming in under the footing of the foundation.
Torn Vapor Barrier
Falling Insulation
Loose and Dirty Vapor Barrier
Over time the vapor barrier becomes insecure and rips. This creates pockets that allow for the ground moisture pass through and up into your home.
Insulation fell down
That moisture collects on insulation and creates sagging and falling insulation. In many situations the insulation falls all the way down and then you are left with large uninsulated spaces for air to come up from the crawlspace into your home.
Flooding beneath the house
Pumping out water under a home in NW Portland so we can get a pump installed.
Mold on Beams
Due to the high humidity in this crawlspace, mold has now grown on the beams of this house polluting and contaminating the air in the home and weakening the foundation of the home.
Mold on beam
When we pulled back the insulation the inspector revealed black mold underneath.
Makeshift Sump Pump
It is always interesting to me to see what most consider to be a sump pump. It is so much different than our sump pumps.
Hole in the wall
I know it is hard to see in the pictures but this is an area where the concrete has crumbled and water is now just pouring in under the home.
Rotting Post
This post was a prime example of mold spreading in the crawlspace. It was on the beams and into the floorboards moving up into the home above.
Flooded Crawlspace
This inspection started out with nothing but water, everywhere.
It's real wet out there
When it is raining like it is today, its safe to assume there will be a fair share of wet crawlspaces. This is far more common than you would assume.
Mold in insulation
This insulation is damp and shows obvious signs of pest issues in addition to the moisture in the space.
