Crawl Space Repair Photo Album: Transforming the Crawl Space - Portland, OR
This homeowner had been experiencing some issues with strange smells throughout her home and decided to do some research on what was causing it. They discovered that having these smells in your house is a result from high humidity levels in the crawl space. High humidity levels can cause an array of problems, like wood rotting and mold growth. They decided the best solution was to call John's Waterproofing and have them insulate the crawl space in order to help regulate and control the environment. The first step is to remove all the fiberglass insulation and damaged vapor barrier. When the fiberglass is loose and falling from the sub-floor, that's a huge indicator that there is a humidity problem and mold can grow. After removing the damaged insulation, our team begins installing a drainage system. This includes laying a perforated pipe along the interior perimeter and connecting it to a TripleSafe sump pump to act as a passageway for water to safely be pushed away from the homes foundation. Then, we install TerraBlock insulation. This insulation foam is designed to be durable and withstand numerous conditions to properly insulate the crawl space. A CleanSpace vapor barrier is installed on top of that as protection against moisture damage. For this job, it was important we installed a SaniDry dehumidifier to pull the moisture out of the air and control the humidity levels. Now, this homeowner can enjoy their home without strange smells because the environment in the crawl space is controlled.
Damaged Insulation and Vapor Barrier
This photo shows how damaged their original vapor barrier was with the dirt and mud brought in from water seeping in.
Vapor Barrier is Away from the Walls
Any moisture that comes through the walls is left exposed in the crawl space and when water pools it can easily get on top of the vapor barrier
