Crawl Space Repair Photo Album: Crawl Space Waterproofing on a Budget - Saint Benedict, OR
Waterproofing your crawl space shouldn't be thought of as a luxury, but actually as a necessity in order to help maintain your homes health. At John's Waterproofing, we offer homeowners options on how they waterproof their crawl space without having to break their budget. One of these options includes doing a Pipe Pump Plastic method. This is designed to help offer some kind of solution to a damaged crawl space if commitment to a full encapsulation seems like too much. The owner of this property decided this would be the perfect route for them in order to help control the overflow of water pooling in and provide some protection from the earth and their home. The first step is to install a drainage system along the interior perimeter of the crawl space. This ensures that there is a safe passageway for water to flow through so that it won't puddle. We do this by installing a perforated pipe in a silk sock that then connects to a SuperSump Plus sump pump. This sump pump is what actually pushes the water collected from the pipe away from the homes foundation. Being able to control where the water goes, helps to prevent future flooding in the crawl space that can damage the wooden posts and cause mold growth. After a drainage system is installed, then we go in and install a vapor barrier. This 6 mil vapor barrier has each seam overlapped and goes up each edge of the foundation walls to prevent groundwater from seeping over it. We install it up the walls so that any moisture that comes in will be directed down to the drainage system and away from the home. By offering a Pipe Pump Plastic method, we are able to help homeowners keep water out of their crawl space and stay within their budgets.
Exposed Dirt in Crawl Space.
This property had no form of protection in their crawl space against moisture and just had the earth exposed. This allows easy entrance for groundwater to seep up and flood.
Puddling in Crawl Space.
Because there was no vapor barrier, this photo shows how the crawl space was already beginning to have water puddling in.
6 Mil Vapor Barrier.
This photo shows as the new vapor barrier was being installed to cover the entirety of the crawl and protect against water damage.
Isolated Wooden Posts.
As we're installing the new vapor barrier, we secure it around the wooden posts to isolate them and protect from moisture damage that can lead to rotting wood.
