Crawl Space Repair Photo Album: Let's Talk About the CleanSpace Vapor Barrier - Beaverton, OR
When doing an encapsulation, the purpose is to ensure that water is unable to get into the crawl space. But how do we do that? One way is by installing a CleanSpace vapor barrier. This vapor barrier is installed over top the TerraBlock insulation foam on the base of the crawl space and on the walls up to the rim joists. It is also installed between the concrete footings and wooden posts to isolate the posts and protect them from water damage. CleanSpace is sealed in place with 4 in. wide waterproof tape to ensure moisture won't be able to seep through and into the wood of the house. But what makes a CleanSpace vapor barrier different from a code-standard one installed after a house is built, is its durability. A traditional vapor barrier is only a 6 mil plastic liner that can easily move and tear. But, the CleanSpace vapor barrier is a 20 mil thick liner made with woven fibers that completely seal off the earth from the home. These woven fibers allow the vapor barrier to be flexible and tear resistant. It is even backed by a 25 year warranty against rips and tears. Additionally, encapsulations are done to help control the environment in the crawl space and protect against mold or mildew. One reason for that result is because CleanSpace is made from antimicrobial materials, meaning it prevents mold growth on it. Overall, the CleanSpace vapor barrier is the best asset in protecting your crawl space against water damage, while also maintaining a clean look.
