Crawl Space Repair Photo Album: Full Encapsulation Transformation - Anacortes, WA
This homeowner started noticing on one end of their crawl space that moisture was sitting over top their vapor barrier. Understanding this can have negative effects on the homes health, they decided to reach out to John's Waterproofing about getting a full encapsulation and keeping water out long-term. To begin the encapsulation, we first needed to remove the damaged vapor barrier and all the falling fiberglass insulation. These are indicators that there was definitely a moisture and humidity issue because water brought in dirt and debris which destroyed the existing vapor barrier. Then we installed a proper drainage system using a perforated pipe. This pipe gets installed along the interior perimeter of the crawl space to catch and collect any water that tries to seep through. It takes all that water and sends it to a TripleSafe sump pump. This three-pump system is capable of taking gallons of water and safely pushing it out of the crawl space and away from the homes foundation. Once the drainage system is installed, we then laid TerraBlock. This is a thick insulation foam that goes on the base of the crawl space to seal the earth off from the home. This helps make the home more energy efficient and helps to insulate. Over top of that, we installed a CleanSpace vapor barrier. This vapor barrier is made with thick woven fibers that goes along the base of the crawl space, up the foundation walls, and between the footing and wooden posts. It is able to protect and isolate the crawl space from water being able to seep through it. A SaniDry dehumidifier is installed to help control the atmosphere and pull moisture out of the air. Lastly, SilverGlo is applied to the foundation walls to insulate and air seal the space. Now, this homeowner doesn't have to worry about water coming into their crawl space and can enjoy the benefits of a dry home.
Damaged Vapor Barrier.
This previous vapor barrier had been damaged from water seeping through and bringing dirt and debris in from outside.
Sagging Fiberglass Insulation.
The falling fiberglass insulation indicates there is a moisture issue and it is absorbing it from the air causing it to sag, negating its purpose of insulating the home.
CleanSpace Vapor Barrier.
A new CleanSpace vapor barrier is installed to protect the crawl space against water with its thick woven fibers.
Isolating the Crawl Space.
Once the TerraBlock and CleanSpace is installed, the crawl space is completely isolated from the earth and protected against moisture.
Fully Waterproofed Crawl Space.
We apply the CleanSpace vapor barrier up the foundation walls to ensure the entire crawl space is protected against water and the home can stay dry and healthy.
