Using Cleanspace to Waterproof a Crawlspace

DIVING INTO THE PRODUCT

CLEANSPACE AND WHY WE RECOMMEND IT

When looking for a waterproofing material, there are different options and solutions that can be offered and tailored to your home's needs. For crawlspaces, we have one product that we highly recommend as a vapor barrier; CleanSpace. We use this in our crawlspace encapsulation system to isolate your crawlspace from the dirt floor and to prevent outside elements such as water, critters, dirt and moisture from entering the crawlspace and causing damage to your home. While there are less expensive options available, we highly recommend Cleanspace and are willing to stand behind its durability with our twenty-five-year warranty against rips and tears.

Most vapor barriers are 6 MiL thick such as the standard black vapor barriers that are typically used. While these will provide protection, the thin material is prone to ripping and tearing. Cleanspace is 20 MiL thick and also is made of nylon material, giving it a much heartier feel and it will last much longer. It has a full seven layers of durable, flexible, antimicrobial material. This means the material inhibits the growth of microorganisms, since it is a nonorganic material, so mold cannot grow on it.

On top of having a product that can withstand time, we also need to ensure that the barriers will stay in place, and that means needing to secure it. To help hold the material in place it is fastened to the wall with metal fasteners and the seams are sealed with the CleanSpace tape that is made for a sturdy seamless hold. When fully secured, Cleanspace will block water and vapor from entering the Crawlspace. To make it easier to check and ensure it is in proper working order, CleanSpace is produced in white. This really brightens up the space, and if any issues do occur, they are much easier to detect.

Along with keeping out moisture, mold, and critters the CleanSpace system will help cut down on heating and cooling costs and keep your posts and beams strong, extending the life of the structure of your home and increasing the value of your home.
