Stack Effect

THE STACK EFFECT

AIR QUALITY IN THE HOME

As warm air rises in a home, it leaks out of the upper levels and often dispels out via the attic vents. In newer home where air sealing is done properly, this can work out to about half of the air being fully filtered out of a home and replaced within an hour. In older homes which aren't as energy efficient, the air runs through the home and is replaced twice within an hour. This effect creates suction from the crawlspace, sucking the air from outside through the vents, around the home, and up and out from the attic. Therefore, whatever is under your home, such as mold, mildew, pollens, and dust mites, are drawn up into the home. If you or a family member are suffering chronic breathing problems, this could be why.  Building scientists say that up to 50% of the air you breathe in the first floor of your home comes directly from your crawlspace!

If there is high humidity under your home, this creates the ideal environment for mold and mildew to grow, penetrating the homes structure as well as polluting the air as it is pulled up and out of your home.

THE SOLUTION: CLEANSPACE

CleanSpace Encapsulation is the answer to controlling the air quality in your home, creating a healthier environment and, as a bonus, most people will also see a 15-25% savings on their energy bills year-round.

Step 1: All fiberglass insulation, existing vapor barrier and debris is removed

Step 2: We fix any groundwater leakage, if there is one, with interior drainage and a sump system

Step 3: TerraBlock and CleanSpace Barrier are laid on the ground and seams are fully sealed

Step 4: All vents are permanently sealed

Step 5: A dehumidifier is installed to keep the humidity low enough to keep mold from growing and to continuously filter the air for dust mites and the like

Step 6: Apply spray foam to foundation walls for insulation.
