Sump Pumps Photo Album: Installing a Drainage System - Tigard, OR
Arguably, the most important part of any crawl space repair is installing a drainage system. At John's Waterproofing we have perfected our drainage system to be able to properly collect any moisture and safely push it out and away from the homes foundation. The very first step to installing a drainage system is getting everything out of the crawl space. This includes the previous vapor barrier and any falling insulation. We do this to have access of the entire crawl space and identify where drainage needs to be installed. Then, we dig a trench along the interior perimeter of the crawl space. The trench holds a 3 in. perforated pipe in a silt sock. This pipe is able to collect any water that may seep in and give it a safe passageway to flow through so it can't flood in the crawl space. This pipe wraps around the entire crawl space and connects to a sump pump. The Sump Pump is installed at the lowest point in the crawl space. We dig a 22 in. hole for the sump pump container to sit in and the pipe connects in the sides to the container bin. The sump pump has a liner with lots of holes to allow water from the ground to enter and be pumped out. It also has an airtight lid so water can't evaporate. From here a discharge line is put in place where water moves downhill and away from the house.
Step 1: Remove Previous Vapor Barrier.
We need to remove the damaged vapor barrier and see where water is puddling. This also gives access to the entire crawl space and identify where drainage needs to be installed.
Step 2: Lay Perforated Pipe.
The perforated pipe is installed in a trench along the interior perimeter of the crawl space to collect any water that may seep in.
Step 3: Installation of SuperSump Plus.
The SuperSump Plus is installed in the lowest point of the crawl space and surrounded by gravel to filter the water through.
Step 4: Enjoy a Dry Crawl Space.
Once drainage is completely installed, the crawl space can remain dry by giving any moisture a safe passage away from the homes foundation.
