The owner of this home had glanced into the crawlspace to see if an odd odor was coming from here. Upon glancing under the home, they were hit with a damp smell and could see the space needed to be repaired. They called up John's Waterproofing.
This homes crawl space needed some work. There were bits of old vapor barrier, but mostly rock and mud. The homes wooden posts were faltering and the living space was experiencing bouncy floors. The homeowners wanted to address the issue before it worsened and went for a full encapsulation to ensure they would prevent issues from coming back.
This homes heating and cooling costs were on the rise. They knew their floor was cold in the morning, and heard that this could be a sign that the insulation in the crawlspace was failing. They glanced into the crawlspace and saw most of their old fiberglass was resting on the dirt floor... adding no insulation to the home. After searching online they learned that this is common, as fiberglass absorbs water and once heavy, it just falls down. They decided to insulate with an encapsulation and are happy to to report their homes energy costs have gone down and their home is staying more comfortable year round.
This homes fiberglass insulation was a falling mess. Water had been absorbed into it and it was drooping down, clogging up many parts of the crawl space. While this was keeping the mold from the fiberglass from being held against the underside of the home, it was manifesting a nasty odor that had penetrated into the homes living spaces. To address this they wanted a long term solution, and were eager to have a full encapsulation installed.
