Addressing Downspouts
ADDRESSING DOWNSPOUTS
PROTECTING YOUR HOME FROM WATER DAMAGE
When a home is built, the ground around it is disturbed and can take years, sometimes decades to compact again. While this earth is still recovering, the looser dirt attracts water since it can move more freely through it. With this area already compromised, adding water directly on top via a downspout, creates unnecessary pressure on the foundation and can lead to flooding and excessive amounts of mud both under and around the home.
As we prepare for summer if you are one of the homes that face unwanted water pooling near the foundation, addressing your downspouts could significantly help. When handling this exterior issue we like to extend the downspout into the ground and run a discharge line underground to take this water out and away from the loosened earth and safely away from your home's foundation.
If you have questions about downspouts and waterproofing your home, we are here to help. Our design specialists would be happy to come out and do a free inspection and estimate.
