FLOOD ALERT SYSTEM

BEING PROACTIVE FOR ANY WATER EVENT

When it comes to safeguarding your home against water damage, especially in below-grade areas, the focus is often on preventative measures and proactive solutions. One key player in this preventive strategy is the WaterWatch flood alert system. This device not only helps detect an unwanted water intrusion but plays a pivotal role in keeping your below grade space dry and healthy all of the time.

BEGIN WITH A PROPERLY INSTALLED WATERPROOFING SYSTEM

Below-grade waterproofing is the first step to keeping your basement or crawl space protected against water damage. For lasting protection we offer crawl space encapsulation and basement waterproofing which comes with multiple wall solutions based on what the homeowner wants. Across the board though, a good waterproofing system will include a Sump Pump to pump the groundwater safely away from the home. These machines are vital to keeping your below-grade space dry and healthy, but as a back up, our pumps also include a WaterWatch Flood Alert System.

We stand behind our sump pumps as being the best in the industry, but this flood alert system plays a big part in protecting your home. This machine is set to go off should the below-grade space flood for any reason. Our sump pump is installed in the lowest point of either a basement or crawl space, so if an issue occurs, it will pool around the pump first, setting the alert to sound.

THE ROLE OF A WATERWATCH ALERT SYSTEM

WaterWatch flood alerts offer a crucial line of defense by providing real-time monitoring and early warning capabilities. The WaterWatch system monitors water levels and detects the presence of water where it shouldn't be. This can occur for multiple reasons. Firstly, if the pump was not installed onto a dedicated outlet, the breaker could have overloaded and flipped causing the pump to not work. Secondly, there could be a power outage and the sump pump can't turn on. Lastly, there could be a plumbing leak that is dripping or gushing into this below grade space. This early detection allows for prompt action to address potential issues before they become severe.

Should the WaterWatch alert system go off, you as a homeowner are alerted through its high pitched warning noise so you may take action. You can either call John's to send out a service technician to assess the situation, or dive under the house yourself. Once the issue is determined a solution can be put into place.

  1. If a breaker has flipped, you can simply flip the breaker, and the space can be cleaned up. During installation, we outline that a sump pump should be on it's own dedicated outlet to ensure the machine keeps working. Our Electrical Division will be happy to help set this up, if it has not been done properly previously.
  2. If a power outage has led to the issue, call John's, we proudly sell UltraSump battery backups or Cummins generators to keep this important machine going!
  3. If a plumbing leak is present, the water can be turned off and a plumber will be needed. Our service techs can be scheduled to come by to clean up the space after the issue has been resolved.

While we hope you will not have to hear the alarm sound, we understand that issues can occur, which is why we would rather you be prepared and alerted as soon as possible. If you hear your WaterWatch alert sounding, we are here to help get to the root of the issue and get your home back on track.
