Waterproofing a Daylight Basement in Onalaska, WA
Challenge
This home had a beautiful daylight basement that was partially finished. It had one bedroom and the rest of the space was used as general storage and a laundry room. While the homeowners had not dealt with flooding, they knew the space had a damp odor. Their neighbors actually had their basement flood though, which prompted this homeowner to take pre-emptive work and protect their home from water damage before the job became dire and expensive.
Solution
To protect this space we landed on a solution to fit the homes space, and the homeowners wants. To begin we installed a WaterGuard drainage system around the entire interior perimeter of the space. This involves digging a trench around the space, laying down a bed of gravel with WaterGuard over, and then the system is cemented over for a smooth floor. The walls in the bedroom and storage space were covered with BrightWall paneling, while the laundry room had our CleanSpace wall barrier installed. Both systems will guide any water from the foundation walls down into the drain system. The WaterGuard system is installed to collect the foundation water and any groundwater, grading it to a low point in the basement where it goes into a TripleSafe sump pump to then be pumped out and away from the home. As a final step we installed a SaniDry Dehumidifier to ensure this space remains dry and healthy!
