Water Moisture Damages Wooden Foundation Beam - Lyons, OR
Challenge
The home had no waterproofing system in place, The original homeowners didn't give their crawlspace a second thought. However, when they were ready to sell their home and move to the next chapter of their lives, it was discovered that their home had moisture damage under their home that had warped the flooring in the living room. The first sign of damage was that one of the doors in the home was very uneven, it wasn't yet scraping the floor, but it was very close to damaging the wood floors. Upon further inspection, it was discovered that the foundation beam under that doorway had suffered from moisture damage, which caused the beam to crack, causing visible issues above.
Solution
To address this issue, we needed to use a few SmartJacks to reinforce the already damaged section of the home. We used two jacks, placed carefully in the crawlspace. This can be adjusted if the ground settles over the years and are made of metal, so it cannot rot or suffer from water damage. This added support was able to make an instant difference in the flooring above. To add in waterproofing, we then did a 6 Mil vapor barrier to help keep the water out, and the home above dry.
