Cleaning Up Your Crawl Space - McMinnville
Challenge
This homeowner decided it was time to do a general inspection on their crawl space and ensure everything was up to standards to ensure a clean environment. This led to discovering the disaster that was infiltrating their crawl space with fallen fiberglass insulation, exposed dirt, and a damaged vapor barrier. John's Waterproofing recommended a full encapsulation would be the best solution in removing what was damaged and installing products that will actually protect the home's environment and promote the clean crawl space they were desiring.
Solution
In an encapsulation, the first thing that needs to be done is removing all the fiberglass insulation. When fiberglass is destroyed and falling from the sub-floor, this shows that it isn't properly insulating the home and can be a source for mold to grow if exposed to humidity or water. After, it is important to take out the old vapor barrier that was ripping by the walls and covered in dirt. With a clean slate, we can now begin installing the new insulation: TerraBlock, and vapor barrier: CleanSpace, that will actually protect the home. TerraBlock is installed on the base of the crawl space with CleanSpace installed on top of it. Not only will this provide a cleaner look, but then future moisture damage can be prevented in case of heavy rain and flooding. The CleanSpace is even installed under each wooden post that supports the homes foundation to protect the wood from rotting. The last piece of this encapsulation involves applying Spray Foam to every wall in the crawl space. This step is important to insulate and air seal the space for proper environmental management. This homeowner now possesses a clean and safe crawl space.
